A storm system brewing in the Pacific is expected to bring rain, gusty winds and possibly thunderstorms to Southern California on Thursday. “For tomorrow … Moderate to heavy rainfall is possible, especially in the afternoon hours. We’re talking about some gusty winds, some thunderstorms, potential for hail. We’ve got a lot going on,” KTLA’s Kirk Hawkins said Wednesday morning. The National Weather Service (NWS) called for rain totals to remain less than a third of an inch in most areas.

A cool and wet start to the week is underway for Southern California Monday morning with forecasters adding gusty winds to the mix as well. Overnight showers left roadways slick for Southland commuters with “light rainfall through the afternoon hours” expected, KTLA’s Kirk Hawkins said. Rain totals are expected to remain relatively light with Monday’s showers bringing around a quarter of an inch or less to most areas of Los Angeles County.

A spring-level heat wave hit Southern California and even set some records on Monday but forecasters are already switching gears to monitor a chance of rain this weekend. The National Weather Service issued a Record Event Report for three locations around the region that tied or set a new all-time high-temperature record for March 24. Woodland Hills – 95 degrees posted Monday broke the old record of 89 degrees set back in 1988.

A spring warming trend could break some afternoon records around Southern California on Monday. “We’re really talking about temperatures 10 to 20 degrees above normal,” KTLA’s Kirk Hawkins said. The National Weather Service (NWS) says afternoon highs are expected to be in the 90s across the warmest valleys of Los Angeles and Ventura counties. “Some of the areas that are basically going to be on alert include Woodland Hills, Ojai and Palmdale,” Kirk said.

A weak storm system will push through Southern California on St. Patrick’s Day, bringing cooler temperatures, gusty winds and a chance of light rain across the region. “We begin with the rain in Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo County, Ventura County, and L.A. County this afternoon. You can see the increasing chances of rain likely, but we’re talking very, very light rain,” KTLA’s Kirk Hawkins said Monday morning.
