Homeowners need fewer years to save for a down payment on a home in Maricopa than about 90% of other American cities in a new study. According to the financial experts at Upgraded Points in Austin, Texas, Maricopa residents need just over six years to save the 20%, or $71,000 on average, needed for a home down payment. That’s not bad, considering Arizonans overall must save significantly more over a longer period to keep their mortgage payments affordable, according to the same study.

Six months after Lowe’s Home Improvement broke ground at Maricopa’s South Bridge Marketplace, the Mooresville, N.C.-based big-box store is narrowing its sights on an opening date. The video quickly grabbed 60,000 views as Maricopa residents flocked to the comments claiming they had inside knowledge of the store’s opening date.

You’d better make room for that Dave’s Double and a large Frosty because Wendy’s is doubling down on building a second restaurant to Maricopa, this time off the main strip at The Wells. Chicago-based Weaver Consultants Group on April 22 resubmitted a pre-application package for the fast-food giant at 41980 W. Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway, according to public records obtained by InMaricopa. It would be built in the empty lot between Fast & Friendly Express Car Wash and Maricopa Kids’ Dentists.

Time to raise your glasses to Maricopa’s newest state representative. His liquor store bill, which aligns with his small-government GOP platform, has become his first to face the governor’s formidable veto stamp and live to tell the tale. Freshman Chris Lopez’s House Bill 2741 was co-sponsored by 19 other Arizona Republicans and signed into law last month at the nib of Gov. Katie Hobbs, a Democrat. It was “a great feeling,” Lopez said.

Six months ago, from the ashes of an agency that tried and failed to fix State Route 347 came a new idea. It was a novel, if unorthodox, idea. In a bleak moment, it illuminated an unexpected new road forward. Tonight, the fruits of that idea had crowds of people standing at City Hall, because the seats were all full. It became official — Maricopans will pay an extra penny for every $2 they spend on most goods and services in the city.
