A Wake County sheriff's deputy serving a summons shot and killed a dog after it bit him, the Sheriff's Office said Friday. The deputy, whose name was released, entered a home on Lord Berkley Road in Raleigh when the family's Belgian Malinois bit him. He was treated for unspecified injuries at the scene. The Sheriff's Office did not provide details, including what the civil summons was for and the deputy's job status.

After complaints from riders visiting Durham Station, the city's public transit system has banned smoking in all indoor and outdoor areas. [email protected] GoDurham is enforcing a new smoking ban to create a healthier environment for riders and visitors. Smoking is now prohibited throughout the entire Durham Station Transportation Center, including platforms and concourses, at 601 W. Main St. Previously, smoking was allowed in designated areas outside.
