BY KT HARRISON PHOTOS BY ALEX BARRETOIn New Jersey, it takes a lot for an Italian restaurant to stand out. But tucked away in Little Silver, Little Buca breaks the mold. It is calm, not cacophonous. It doesn’t serve pizza, just a single-page menu of master pieces from “The Boot.” But the most remarkable aspect of Little Buca is that diners are truly treated like famiglia; you are welcomed by name, you are hugged, you are tended to and cooked for.

BY KT HARRISON PHOTOS BY ALEX BARRETOPeg Reynolds’ two toddler daughters were already acting up as she loaded two flats of wholesale flowers into her 1978 Honda station wagon, the first of two such trips. “Only half our daily order for our Manahawkin flower stand fit into the wagon,” she recalled. Flash forward almost four decades, and the family owns 40 trucks.

click to enlarge Zoe Hoerner-LeVell of Enosburg Falls' Bumblebee Bistro is not your average early-career chef. She is unflappable and utterly consistent. Her from-scratch, farm-to-table comfort food is conceived, cooked and seasoned just right every time. You'd expect all of that from a culinary-degreed kitchen veteran, but Hoerner-LeVell is no mature master chef.

Herb-crusted cod at F1rst in Hawthorne is served with wild mushrooms, string beans and cauliflower purée. Photo: Heather Willensky Most chefs are made, but some are born that way. Adam Weiss, the chef/owner of F1rst, is one of these food whisperers. His menu vaults to the skies from his amuse-bouche on and only builds excitement, like a Shore roller coaster. One taste of Weiss’s ethereal Parisienne gnocchi had me as breathless as Six Flags’ Jersey Devil.

The Circle is my first 3½ star restaurant in nearly 15 years of reviewing for NJ Monthly. Luscious, lovable, & BYO, it's well worth the drive from NYC. Go before the inevitable Gray Lady ink & James Beard noms blow it up! https://t.co/hoJCGRh6LA
