MONTGOMERY, Ala. — The Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) is taking steps to regulate student transfers in high school athletics. This month, the board approved the formation of a task force dedicated to collecting transfer data to identify non-compliant transfer students in the state. A student can be non compliant if not meeting all of the regulations laid out in the AHSAA handbook.

The Senate Education Policy committee gave favorable approval to a bill establishing a provisional release process when the Alabama State Department of Education (ALSDE) intervenes at local school boards of education. Under Senate Bill 215, after a local board of education is released from educational intervention, a provisional release period of five years begins. During the provisional release, the oversight of operations at the school district will return to the local board of education.

There's a police presence of Birmingham and UAB Police outside of the Courtyard hotel on 5th Ave south in Birmingham. Police have been in place since around at least 4:45am Thursday morning. ABC 3340 crews noticed a black vehicle being towed from the scene. The vehicle had a bullet hole in its black drivers side window. A bystander says he believes a person was transported to the area in this vehicle with some kind of serious injury. This is a developing story.
