PUTNAM COUNTY, Ga. (WGXA) -- A Putnam County commissioner has died. In a Facebook post, the county acknowledged the loss of District 1 Commissioner, Gary McElhenney. He was elected to the commission in 2020. He was most recently re-elected to the position in Putnam County's May 21 election after running as an unopposed incumbent. So far, no. details have been released about funeral plans for McElhenney. This is a developing story.

MACON, Ga. (WGXA) -- The Georgia Environmental Protection Division's (EPD) Summer Open Burn Ban starts Wednesday. From May 1 through September 30, the burn ban will be enforced across 54 counties. Twelve Middle Georgia counties are under the ban including: Macon-Bibb, Crawford, Houston, Jones, Lamar, Monroe, Peach, Pike, Twiggs, Upson, Meriwether and Troup Counties. The ban prohibits burning yard and land-clearing debris in addition to the year-round ban on burning household trash.

MACON, Ga. (WGXA) -- A Middle Georgia man who worked with the Bibb County School District was sentenced to 50 years in prison after pleading guilty to child molestation charges, earlier this month. 55-year-old Charles Jackson pleaded guilty in Bibb Superior Court to charges of Child Molestation, Enticing a Child for Indecent Purposes and Sexual Contact by a Person in a Position of Trust.

MACON, Ga. (WGXA)- Teams of golfers teed off this morning to support a pillar of the Macon community. Golfers flooded the Brickyard Golf Club for the Fourth Annual Salvation Army Macon Charity Golf Tournament. The event helps the organization raise money to assist Middle Georgians in need. Today's event also marked the 125th anniversary of the Salvation Army serving the Greater Macon community.

MACON, Ga. (WGXA) - The Houston County District Attorney's Office announced that 40-year-old Matthew Delp pleaded guilty to Aggravated Child Molestation. Court documents say Delp sexually abused a 14-year-old girl in November 2021. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was able to identify Delp's DNA during thier investigation. He was sentenced to 25 years in prison with no chance of parole. After his release, he will be required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
