"We don't send a Christmas card, we send Christmas cookies," Wallingford resident Katie Nemeth says. Nemeth estimates she and her family bake around 1,000 cookies to distribute to friends, family members and neighbors. She's one of several residents of the state who bakes hundreds or thousands of Christmas cookies, but their stories start in the same place: with mom. "My mom really was the original cookie baker," Nemeth says.

Bill Hunniford estimates a thousand pies get picked up from American Pie Company on Thanksgiving Day. In the weeks leading up to the holiday, he says it's easily thousands. "I've never counted," he says. "I have to keep my nose down and get through it."That's in addition to the cookies, cakes and breads the bakery produces. Sometimes, that includes laborious seasonal goodies like strudel, for which a thin pastry dough is stretched across the surface area of a table.

Friday the 13th has a lot of spooky associations, but in Danbury this year, it brings a new option for smoothies, sandwiches, salads, wraps and acai bowls. Boost Bowls, a Connecticut-based fast-casual restaurant chain is opening its fifth location in the state. According to a news release, the new Boost Bowls will open on Friday in Danbury Square Plaza, at 15 Backus Ave.

Content creator Cristina Clericuzio previously told more than 400,000 TikTok followers, "When I die, bury me in Retail 101." Her would-be gravesite has now been moved from Naugatuck to Shelton, where the warehouse store is holding its grand opening this weekend. Retail 101 announced on its website that it's holding a grand opening at 20 Constitution Blvd. in Shelton Sept. 20-22. Previously, Retail 101 had been in the Naugatuck Event Center at 6 Rubber Ave.
