HOLLAND, MI -- Summer Fridays just got livelier downtown Holland as the beach town kicks off its summer concert series. Back again at Kollen Park, free, live music performances will take place 6:30-8:30 p.m. Fridays from June 13- August 15. The concert series will be every Friday with the exception of July 4. Visitors are encouraged to bring their lawn chairs and blankets and set up around the Kollen Park Bandshell with views of Lake Macatawa.

It’s time to play outside, Michiganders. The annual summer “free weekend” from the Department of Natural Resources is here with a deal for outdoor enthusiasts of all kinds. Each summer and winter the DNR gifts residents and visitors a free pass to visit state parks. The department also does special days for free fishing and off-roading. This summer all three are on the calendar for June 7-8.

ONTONAGON, MI -- There’s no light shows, backup dancers or pyrotechnics at this iconic Michigan music festival. Instead, allow yourself to drop into the wilderness of the Upper Peninsula and find your next favorite indie artist. The annual Porcupine Mountains Music Festival runs Aug 22-23 at the Porcupine Mountains Winter Sports Complex with three stages. Each year the festival committee does their homework to bring in independent artists.

GRAYLING, MI -- Major renovations are coming to Northern Michigan’s state park famous for its Old Growth Forest. The Hartwick Pines Visitor Center and the upper section of its parking lot will be closed for a $1.25 million renovation starting June 23. The construction closure will be in place through the end of the year. During the construction closure, the Old Growth Trail access will be available at the Logging Museum and Picnic Area.

DOUGLAS, MI -- Floating on the water with a cocktail in hand, bar snacks within reach and live music on deck is summertime paradise at this Michigan watering hole. Red Dock, 219 N. Union St., in Douglas, has been a summer staple for locals and tourists alike since 1998. They’ve reopened for their 2025 season with even more live music on the schedule and additional dock space for boaters to pull up and hop right out to the party.
