Tariffs have been top of mind for people across the country for months now, so it only makes sense that it would be a top issue as people head to the federal election polls. In Saskatchewan, tariffs are already having an effect. The tariff on Canadian steel going into the U.S. has raised concerns for steel workers in Regina, and canola farmers are worried about their future after China put a 100 per cent tariff on canola oil and meal, among other Canadian commodities.

The provincial government says reports of specific problems in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at the Regina General Hospital aren’t true. The Saskatchewan Union of Nurses (SUN) claimed there was a shortage of ventilators in the unit, and told Global News that mothers and babies were having to be moved out of the province, even to North Dakota, because of capacity issues. The comment was made by Racquel Hilbert during her budget speech in March, when she was talking about international trade markets. The comment was publicized on Wednesday last week and on Friday the premier announced she would be stripped of her addtional MLA duties.
