At 12:35 a.m. Monday, California Highway Patrol (CHP) Newhall Area received reports of a traffic crash on the westbound 210 Freeway at Yarnell Street in Sylmar, said Officer Carlos Burgos-Lopez, spokesperson for the CHP Newhall Area Office. “As units responded to the location, a second crash occurred involving a motorcycle which subsequently struck one of the previously crashed vehicles,” Burgos-Lopez said.

Just before 9 a.m. Friday, first responders received reports of a medical emergency on the 23000 block of Coltrane Avenue in Newhall, said Kaitlyn Aldana, a spokesperson with the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Beginning Thursday, thunderstorms are forming over Ventura County, and are expected to move into Los Angeles County, and parts of Santa Clarita by the late afternoon into the evening, said Rose Schoenfeld, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service (NWS). The storms are expected to most impact the Antelope Valley, however, thunderstorms could form in some parts of our community, according to Schoenfeld. “This weekend we are still anticipating rain,” Schoenfeld said.

Clark, with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station. “A man accidentally shot himself in the forearm,” Clark said. The man was transported to the hospital in unknown condition. On April 29, 2002, Temple Station Deputy David William March, 33, was shot and killed by a stolen vehicle suspect during a traffic stop. March was a seven-year veteran of the department and a graduate of Canyon High School, March was survived by his wife, Teri, and his 12-year-old stepdaughter, Kayla. At 10:03 a.m., March had stopped a car on Live Oak Avenue in Irwindale for a traffic violation. The driver, Jorge Arroyo Garcia, approached Deputy March, withdrawing a handgun.

Around 8:50 a.m. Monday, first responders received reports of a bicycle rider in cardiac arrest on Hillcrest Parkway near Sloan Canyon Road in Castaic, said Deputy Robert Jensen, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station. Paramedics with the Los Angeles County Fire Department pronounced the individual dead on arrival. As of the publication of this article, it is unknown if the rider went into cardiac arrest before or after the fall, according to officials.

Many Santa Clarita residents selflessly volunteer their time to raise Guide Dogs of America/Tender Loving Canine (GDA/TLC) puppies, teaching them obedience and basic home skills in hopes that one day they will become service or guide dogs. GDA/TLC specializes in raising mainly Labradors or Labrador/golden Retriever mixes, with a few Golden Retrievers making the cut to become guide dogs to support blind and low vision people, as well as service dogs to lend aid to those with autism or PTSD.
