Scores of firefighters battled a heath blaze in Bransgore this evening (Saturday). The fire, which hit gorse behind the village’s Scout hut off Burnt House Lane, was attended by firefighters from both Dorset and Hampshire fire services. At least half a dozen engines attended, along with several support vehicles. Part of Burnt House Lane was closed to traffic while the firefighters were at the scene.

Several homes in Barton were evacuated yesterday (Thursday) after a suspected explosive was found in a house. Police cordoned off part of Marine Drive West after the call was received at around 3.20pm when “a reported discovery of a piece of suspected unexploded ordnance” was discovered. A Hampshire police spokesperson said: “A cordon was put in place and several nearby homes evacuated. “The explosive ordnance disposal team attended and made safe the item, which was empty.

Names and addresses were found in a large flytip dumped in a New Forest car park near Burley this morning (Friday). A handful of residents rallied round to help clear the dumping at Burbush car park, off Pound Lane, after a photo was shared on social media. One said it was important to make sure loose items did not blow across the Forest. “It’s disgusting and it smells so the ponies will be interested. We’ve got to do something,” she added.

A second fire has broken out at Moors Valley a day after a blaze in woodland at the leisure site. The country park released a social media post this afternoon (Tuesday) saying: “Moors Valley is currently experiencing another fire incident in the forest.

About 80 firefighters from crews across Dorset and Hampshire are fighting a blaze at Moors Valley Country Park this afternoon. Dorset and Hampshire fire services were called at 11.53am to a “large fire” at a pine woodland measuring 400 metres by 500 metres at the leisure site.
