Testimony will continue Friday in the trial of a former Major League Baseball pitcher accused of ambushing and shooting his in-laws at their Tahoe-area home. Jurors are determining Daniel Serafini's guilt in a June 5, 2021, attack that left Gary Spohr dead and Wendy Wood seriously wounded. Despite surviving and making a full recovery, she killed herself because she felt she could not go on without her husband, family told KCRA 3. Serafini is married to Erin, one of Gary and Wendy's two daughters.

A former Placer County driver training instructor has been sentenced to two years in prison after pleading no contest to charges of sexual battery by restraint and three counts of lewd acts upon a child. Court documents show that Mauricio Arce, 73, was the founder of The Academy of Driving when the alleged crimes occurred between 2007 and 2020, involving some of his female teenage students. His conviction came more than a decade after his behavior was first reported to law enforcement.

Pacific Gas and Electric Company is asking California regulators to increase rates for its customers, starting in 2027. However, the utility company said this is the smallest percentage increase it has asked for in a decade. PG&E proposed an annual average rate increase of 3.4% or 3.5% for customers in a Thursday 2027-2030 General Rate Case filing with the California Public Utilities Commission.
