The City Council will ratify or reject Platt’s suspension or take other action at its March 20 meeting, Mayor Quinton Lucas wrote in a letter to Platt that was shared with media. Deputy City Manager Kimiko Gilmore has been appointed interim city manager.

But Kansas City has already hosted a game against another Major League Soccer team this year: Inter Miami, led by international phenom Lionel Messi, beat Sporting on Wednesday night, despite the decidedly un-Miami-like temperatures, in a CONCACAF Champions Cup tournament game. And in a few weeks, Kansas City Current will start the National Women’s Soccer League season.

The man accused of firing the shot that killed local DJ Lisa Lopez-Galvan at the Chiefs Super Bowl parade shooting will stand trial in January 2026, a judge ruled Monday. Miller, 18, faces four felony counts including second-degree murder, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon in a shooting that killed Galvan and injured at least 24 more. The trial is scheduled to begin Jan. 12 and last two weeks.
