    A Kinston family gathered Sunday to celebrate what would have been Kieyatta Butler's 33rd birthday, honoring her memory with a special event. Butler tragically lost her life following what they call a domestic violence incident in 2022. Her family organized a birthday bash and a memorial walk, named the "3Feet Domestic Violence Walk," to commemorate her life. Participants walked nearly a mile in her honor. Kieyatta's nickname was 3Feet because she was short.

The first, free event will take place next Saturday at the slave quarters next to the airport in James City. Less than two miles away from Coastal Carolina Regional Airport in James City lies the Crocket-Miller slave quarters. It was built in the 1830s and stands beside a gravesite where more than 500 former slaves are buried.
