HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - Agencies from across the state are working together to prepare for hurricane evacuations. Drivers will notice state troopers, first responders, the National Guard and more stationed at every intersection of Highway 501 and Highway 544 on Wednesday for their full-blown hurricane evacuation exercise. The yearly training tests lane reversal plans for all three major coastal areas in the state. Authorities will not actually reverse lanes and will not impact your commute.

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - More customers are coming forward following a WMBF News investigation into a local car repair shop, and Horry County’s top prosecutor is also weighing in. WMBF News received nearly a dozen emails, calls and messages from former Modern Rust customers who claim the Myrtle Beach-area shop did not hold up its end of the bargain. Some customers have taken the loss, while others are waiting for their day in court or a check in the mail.

The old Waccamaw Elementary School on Highway 90 at East Cox Ferry Road has sat empty for decades, but now the Family Life Recovery Center hopes to fill the classrooms once again, helping and teaching those who need it most.

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - AAA predicts a record-breaking Memorial Day travel weekend and shares the best and worst times to hit the road. AAA said getting on the road before 11 a.m. is the best time to travel on Friday, and the worst time to leave is between noon and 8 p.m.AAA predicts 45.1 million people will travel over Memorial Day weekend, breaking the record set in 2005. AAA expects 39.4 million of those people to travel by car.
