SURFSIDE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Bikers are taking over the Grand Strand to help our heroes in the 14th annual Crudes Veteran Ride. More than 100 bikers are hitting the road to raise money for Home for Our Troops. The nonprofit builds custom houses for post 9/11 veterans. This year, bikers are taking a brand new route that’s about 90 miles shorter. Event organizer Kevin Gumina said bikers requested a shorter route, and he hopes it will draw even more people in for the ride.

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Horry-Georgetown Technical College students are among the hundreds working behind the scenes, making sure the golf course is in pristine condition for the ONEflight Myrtle Beach Classic. Nearly 30 HGTC students are working the grounds at the Dunes Golf and Beach Club from sunup to sundown this year. The students do everything from mowing grass, raking bunkers, hand-picking weeds and even data collection.

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - A local pastor is taking his skills from the pulpit to the green, volunteering as a Pro-Am starter for the OneFlight Myrtle Beach Classic. First Presbyterian Church of Myrtle Beach pastor John Brearley said he spent last year’s Classic as a floating volunteer. However, he never expected to get one of the most important jobs when he asked for a more permanent role this year.

CONWAY, SC (WMBF) - It’s Nurses Appreciation Week, and one high school nurse goes above and beyond for thousands of students each day. Conway High School nurse Crystal Keats has cared for nearly 1,500 students every day for the last four years, and she’s never called out of work. “I have not used any of my sick time,” Keats said.
