HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - A nonprofit is giving an old school building in the Conway area a new purpose for those struggling with addiction. The old Waccamaw Elementary School on Highway 90 at East Cox Ferry Road has sat empty for decades, but now the Family Life Recovery Center hopes to fill the classrooms once again, helping and teaching those who need it most.

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - AAA predicts a record-breaking Memorial Day travel weekend and shares the best and worst times to hit the road. AAA said getting on the road before 11 a.m. is the best time to travel on Friday, and the worst time to leave is between noon and 8 p.m.AAA predicts 45.1 million people will travel over Memorial Day weekend, breaking the record set in 2005. AAA expects 39.4 million of those people to travel by car.

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - A new set of special puppies is on a mission to help those who once served us. Nonprofit Joint Task Force K9s is introducing its first-ever bred litter of future service dogs. The pups will go to veterans and law enforcement who suffer from PTSD and traumatic brain injuries. JTFK9S founder and CEO Keith Holland says the litter is working on obedience and confidence skills right now, and they will start training on recognizing fluctuating stress hormones in a few weeks.

SURFSIDE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Bikers are taking over the Grand Strand to help our heroes in the 14th annual Crudes Veteran Ride. More than 100 bikers are hitting the road to raise money for Home for Our Troops. The nonprofit builds custom houses for post 9/11 veterans. This year, bikers are taking a brand new route that’s about 90 miles shorter. Event organizer Kevin Gumina said bikers requested a shorter route, and he hopes it will draw even more people in for the ride.
