This trip was hosted. All opinions expressed are entirely my own. I completed my travel to all 50 United States with a trip to Alaska on a Princess cruise with my friend Brittany. I didn't know what to expect as far as wheelchair accessibility but the trip started out better than expected in the capital city of Juneau.

After all the problems with hotels the day before, we were settled into the Tru Hilton in Louisville and getting ready for a busy day at Bourbon & Beyond. I had made appointments between all the music. I was looking forward to it all. My brother, Mark, suggested lunch at Waffle House. He said it was on his bucket list. I hadn’t been in years and I’m never one to turn down waffles. It was actually very good, with big portions and reasonable prices.

I love to cook, but I just can’t do it the way I did when I was healthier. I need to do more advanced planning and avoid making complicated dishes that will keep me in the kitchen for too long. What I haven’t sacrificed is making a variety of food, most of which is on the healthier side, and treats such as protein bars and ice cream. The first year of Bourbon & Beyond in Louisville, Kentucky, had been wonderful, albeit ridiculously hot. The music, food, and bourbon were fantastic, and I wasable to do many interviews for stories. When I left Bourbon & Beyond the second year, it was ina muddy mess. The torrential rains in the hours before the end of day threeleft the long trip to the parking lot in my walker extremely difficult. Had I beenin a wheelchair then, I would have been one of the people stuck for hours inthe mud.

Bronchiectasis is a chronic, progressive lung disease that I have alongside COPD. Here’s what I’ve learned about this frustrating combo. About a year ago, I started waking up during the night coughing. It wasn’t like any cough I had before. I wasn’t bringing up any mucus, even though I felt like it was in my lungs. At times, I believed I was choking. My first thought was that my COPD, or interstitial lung disease (ILD), had advanced. I went to the pulmonologist with my new symptoms.
