The job fair is Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Jackson County Parks Ranger Recreation Building. The county encourages motivated professionals, including federal employees impacted by job loss, to consider bringing their talents to a new home in public service.

Earlier this week, the Kansas City Neighborhood Planning and Development Committee voted to accept a federal grant of $5 million. The item will now go to the city council. That is about half of what it will cost to complete this multiphase redevelopment project. Over the next year or so, the city plans to build a new parking garage with 500 spaces as well as hundreds of new apartments.

PAOLA, Kan. — It’s spawning season and that means the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks (KDWP) are looking to collect some fish eggs. Biologists are currently visiting three to four Kansas reservoirs to collect and spawn walleye eggs. They will raise over 100,000 eggs at a fish hatchery to help restock Kansas lakes. One biologist said it’s something they have to do to keep the reservoirs going.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Voting will begin Tuesday in the upcoming school and special election. November doesn’t seem like that long ago, but 4 months and 20 days went by pretty quickly, and it is almost time to vote again. On Tuesday, the first ballots will be cast for the school and special election. Voters will decide whether to support bond issues in the Kansas City and Lee’s Summit public school districts.

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — The Overland Park Police Department will spend most of 2025 reevaluating its policies. This will be the department’s first full year with a new police chief and more often than not, with new leadership comes new rules. Chief Doreen Jokerst was sworn in in October 2024. Last week, she expressed her plans to the public safety committee to review what she called “high-liability policies.”That review process will take place throughout 2025.
