Preparations for the season include ensuring that each player has a place to stay for the summer. In 2016, the Aviators, a Prospect League summer college team, launched a host family program where players live with a family in the Greater Lafayette area during their stay for the season.

Margaret ChristophersonFor The Journal & CourierINDIANAPOLIS – Beef & Boards Dinner Theatre in Indianapolis has been providing nothing but show-stopping performances for its 50th season, with the likes of “Beauty and the Beast,” “Grumpy Old Men” and “Sophisticated Ladies.”However, its best show of the season so far has to be the current showing of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat,” which may be one of the best shows the theater has put on yet.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. − Rebecca McKanna, a 2015 graduate of Purdue University, recently published her first novel set in a region she knows well, the Midwest. McKanna, an Iowa-native, wrote "Don't Forget the Girl," a true-crime inspired book that follows three women's perspectives during different time periods about their friend's murder — one of which being the friend that is murdered.

MOROCCO, Ind. − The Nature Conservancy's Kankakee Sands nature preserve will soon have a new Welcome Center and bison viewing area. Kankakee Sands in Newton County is made up of around 1,000 acres for bison to wander. As TNC stated in a release, this sometimes makes the bison not visible from existing viewing areas. NiSource Charitable Foundation/NIPSCO donated $25,000 to Kankakee Sands for future developments on the conservation site, including a Welcome Center and a new bison viewing platform.

LAFAYETTE, Ind. − The Songwriters Association of Mid-North Indiana recently hosted a week-long workshop for local musicians and awarded one student a $400 scholarship. SAMI and the workshopSAMI was co-founded in 1992 by songwriters Brian Koning, Scott Greeson, Anita Wood and Mark Skidmore. Greeson, who also serves as the president of SAMI, spoke the Journal & Courier about the workshop, SAMI's history and the Shirley Martin Scholarship.
