My nearly 45 years of working at The Jersey Journal have been filled with frenzied deadlines, you-can’t-make-this-up stories, and immense pride in our journalism and in the paper’s role in the community. What stands out most, though, has been the good fortune to have met more talented, kind and decent people in and out of the newsroom than I could ever count.

Can’t fight City Hall, you say? Ha!The Jersey Journal did exactly that throughout its 157-year existence, leaving behind a rich legacy of advocacy for the people of Hudson County. Soapbox, bully pulpit, megaphone — whatever you want to call it — The Journal made use of its platform to call out inequities, injustices and outright corruption as its reporters, photographers, columnists, editorial writers and editors took seriously the call to be their community’s watchdog.

Nominations are open for the 2026 class of the Hudson County Sports Hall of Fame. Founded in 1991, the hall enshrines Hudson County men and women who have dedicated countless hours to perfecting their skills and have competed at the highest levels, including the Olympic Trials, Boxing World Championships, the NFL, and the NBA. Induction ceremonies take place every other year, with the next event set to take place in 2026.

Weapons charges were lodged against three people in Bayonne in two separate incidents, city police said this week. Around 5:45 p.m. Sunday, 19-year-old Tyrone Johnson of Jersey City and 18-year-old Avianna Killbrew of Bayonne were arrested after a motor vehicle stop at 32nd Street and Broadway, police said.
