SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR) — Nearly two weeks after being hired, Regy Thrope held his introductory news conference on Wednesday afternoon. He made it clear that the ultimate goal is to bring a national title to the SU women’s lacrosse program. This is a homecoming for Thorpe, who starred in high school at Jordan-Elbridge. After a successful two-year stint at Herkimer Community College, Thorpe played two seasons at Syracuse and helped the Orange win the 1993 national title as a team captain.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR) — The Greater Syracuse Sports Hall of Fame announced its class of 2025 Wednesday afternoon. Two-time Super Bowl winning head coach Tom Coughlin headlines the class. He’ll be joined by six other individuals at the induction dinner set for October 27th at the Oncenter. The class includes: Brittany Brigandi (lacrosse), Frank Riccelli (baseball), Bill Sanford (rowing), Kim Sharpe-Greene (cross country/track), Christine Lindsey (lacrosse), and Buddy Hardeman (football).

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) – The Hamilton softball team won its first state title in program history on Saturday, defeating Argyle (Section II Champion) 11-10 in the Class D state championship. Down by one in the bottom of the seventh, Ellie Freeth led off the inning for the Emerald Knights blasting a solo homerun to tie the game. Hamilton would plate the winning run, on a wild pitch a few batters later as Rihana Dye raced home from third lifting the Emerald Knights to the title.

Jack Wenham paced the Wildcats attack with six goals in the loss.

(WSYR-TV) — For the third straight season the Jamesville-DeWitt boys lacrosse team fell in the state title game. Somers knocked off the Red Rams 19-11 for the Class C state championship on Saturday at Boswell Field in Geneva. J-D jumped out to a 2-0 lead, but it was all Somers after that.
