By Marissa McNees Australian manufacturer RMP Global has spent the last 15 years perfecting its sustainable infrastructure technology and, after successful installations in Australia and Europe, is introducing its recycled plastic noise walls, claddings and facades to the North American market. RMP Global’s recycled plastic noise walls first were installed in Australia in 2009 when the contractor on a project that required about 20 panels realized how costly it would be to use concrete.

Eureka Recycling in Minneapolis is celebrating 20 years in business this month, and to mark the occasion, the company has launched its newly upgraded material recovery facility (MRF) following a $12 million investment in sorting and processing equipment. According to Eureka, the enhanced facility promises to “substantially” increase processing capacity and efficiency.

International Paper has reportedly entered exclusive negotiations with German paper company Palm Group for the purchase of five IP corrugated box plants in Europe. The facilities include: three in Normandy, France, including one box plant in Saint Amand, one box plant in Mortagne and one sheet plant in Cabourg; one box plant in Ovar, Portugal; and one box plant in Bilbao, Spain.

GFL Environmental Inc. officially has started up its newly rebuilt material recovery facility (MRF) in Edmonton, Alberta, marking the occasion with a ribbon-cutting ceremony March 31. GFL, based in Vaughan, Ontario, says that with the new MRF’s advanced sorting and processing technology, the facility will optimize recycling efficiency and increase the volume of material processed.

As part of an ongoing effort to optimize its recycled paperboard production, Graphic Packaging International (GPI) revealed last week the official close date for its Middletown, Ohio, coated recycled paperboard (CRB) manufacturing facility. The Atlanta-based packaging company intends to shutter the site this spring, estimating the closure to happen on or about June 1, in anticipation of the startup of its $1 billion CRB mill in Waco, Texas.
