CEDAR — One and one make four. When a pair of Cedar vineyards earned Sustainability in Practice (SIP) certification recently, it doubled the number of regional wineries to earn national recognition. Bel Lago Vineyard, Winery & Cidery, located at 6530 S. Lake Shore Drive, and sister winery, French Valley Vineyard at 3655 S. French Road, announced the attainment of the SIP certification earlier this month.

MIAMI — The new year opened with Decanter recognizing how the region ranked among the state’s best Rieslings. The 2024 American Fine Wine Competition results showed Leelanau County as being the class of the county’s white wines. A dry Riesling from Brengman Brothers near the base of the Leelanau Peninsula and an off-dry Riesling from Bel Lago Vineyard & Winery in Cedar were named Best of Class in judging for the 2024 American Fine Wine Competition held Jan.

TRAVERSE CITY — Some people thought buying a floral store two weeks before Valentine’s Day was perfect. Others questioned what Meagan Thomas Wells and Dan Rohe were thinking, taking over Traverse City’s oldest flower shop on Feb. 1. While the truth lies somewhere in between, the staff of The Flower Station has kept the 341 W. Front St. small business smoothly on the rails. Wells and Rohe are the third generation of owners of a business in operation for about 50 years.
