The junior has been clutch lately for the Islanders, pitching a near complete game during a 9-0 win against Lincoln North Star, throwing 6.2 innings against the Navigators. Then, just a few days later, he came in relief against Elkhorn North, helping Grand Island win an extra inning thriller on the road.

KEARNEY, Neb. (KSNB) - Long-time Kearney Catholic girls basketball coach Rick Petri has stepped down after leading the Stars for 28 seasons. During his tenure, Kearney Catholic qualified for the state tournament 13 times and won state titles in 2007 and 2016. “Over the past 28 years, I’ve been fortunate to create innumerable meaningful memories-from games and practices to road trips, and most importantly the tremendous student athletes I have had the privilege to coach,” Petri said in a statement.

HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - A new name is atop the Hastings High record book, as Jose Mares is the all-time leader in goals scored for the Tigers program with 50 and counting. “When I scored that goal to break the record it just felt amazing, it just feels great, but I couldn’t have done it without my team, every single of them,” said Hastings senior striker Jose Mares. Mares scored his record breaking goal during a neutral site game against Scottsbluff on April 12th.

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - The Northwest girls soccer team has become a powerhouse in Class B as of late. This year, the Vikings have started the season off with six straight wins, outscoring opponents 34-3. Northwest has a veteran core of players with plenty of experience, the senior class were trailblazers, taking the team to the state tournament for the first time in school history during their freshman season.
