ITHACA, N.Y. — Tompkins County Legislator Lee Shurtleff will run for re-election this year to vie for another four years representing Groton and parts of Lansing and Dryden in District 9. Shurtleff, who works as a funeral director, was first elected in 2021. Prior to that, he worked as the Tompkins County Election Commissioner and the director of the Tompkins County Department of Emergency Response before retiring in 2020.

Ithaca school district proposes 3.6% spending increase next year

ITHACA, N.Y. — Ithaca City School District (ICSD) Superintendent Dr. Luvelle Brown introduced the district’s proposed 2025-2026 operating budget during a board meeting Tuesday night. The budget calls for $169,031,619 in spending, a 3.6 percent increase from the final budget approved by voters last year. The budget includes regular operating expenses like teacher wages, supplies, utility bills and interest payments. It does not include major renovations or construction projects.
