Abandoned vehicle auction scheduled for May 9

ITHACA, N.Y. — The Ithaca Police Department will hold its regular auction of abandoned vehicles on Friday, May 9. The auctions will be held in three separate locations throughout Ithaca on Friday morning. According to a press release from the Ithaca Police Department, buyers can pay using cash, cashier’s check or certified check.

ITHACA, N.Y. — The Ithaca Voice has been invited to participate in an upcoming Monk’s Gives Back night, where supporters can come to Monk’s on the Commons on the ground-floor of the downtown Ithaca Marriott to show their support for your local news non-profit organization. Kehlani’s performance was canceled last week over the singer’s previous statements about the war in Gaza. Gunna, who’s been nominated for four Grammy Awards, will be joined by opener DJ duo Louis the Child.
Ithaca man missing since March found safe

ITHACA, N.Y. — An Ithaca man missing since March was found safe Thursday, according to the Ithaca Police Department Lt. Mary Orsaio. The man, 32-year-old Marcus Turner, was found in the Bronx. Orsaio thanked those who helped the police in their efforts to locate Turner. Turner was initially reported missing to the police in March. However, he had not actually been seen since Oct. 19, 2024, according to a police press release at the time.

ITHACA, N.Y. — For the first time, Ithaca residents will have the opportunity to directly impact the city’s spending through a participatory budgeting survey lasting until May 19. Ithacans’ first participatory budgeting task: redesigning the plaza outside Ithaca’s City Hall to make it a more “welcoming, useful space based on residents’ ideas and needs,” according to an announcement from the city.

ITHACA, N.Y. — Some $50 million in federal dollars could be on the line for Tompkins County and the City of Ithaca after President Donald Trump issued his latest salvo against sanctuary jurisdictions Monday night. Trump signed an executive order instructing federal officials to compile and publish a list of “states and local jurisdictions that obstruct the enforcement of federal immigration laws” within the next 30 days.

ITHACA, N.Y. — Severe thunderstorms are forecast throughout Tuesday afternoon and early evening for Tompkins County and the greater central New York area. The National Weather Service’s (NWS) Binghamton office issued a warning saying damaging winds, hail and isolated tornadoes are all possible Tuesday evening from about 4 p.m. onward, given the atmospheric conditions. High winds are the most likely impact of the storms, while flooding does not appear likely.
What to know about next week’s REAL ID deadline for domestic flights

ITHACA, N.Y. — In one week, on May 7, adult U.S. citizens will be required to present a REAL ID or U.S. passport card — or, for New York State residents, an Enhanced ID — to board any domestic flight or enter any federal building or military base. Standard IDs will continue to be accepted for photo ID purposes and to drive after the May 7 deadline. The IDs, along with more information, are available at the Department of Motor Vehicles at 301 Third Street in Ithaca.

Local fracktivist joins Tompkins County Legislature race

ITHACA, N.Y. — Years after leading local efforts to ban fracking, Irene Weiser has announced her campaign to run for District 13 on the Tompkins County Legislature, which includes the Towns of Caroline and Danby. Weiser is a former Town of Caroline board member, serving between 2012 and 2021. She was also the chair of the Emergency Medical Services Task Force, laying the groundwork for the county’s rapid emergency response program, which now serves the district she’d be representing.
