CLEVELAND, Ohio — Even a shoulder injury could not keep Cincere Johnson from racking up more than 200 tackles and leaving little doubt to be Ohio’s top linebacker in the Class of 2026 last fall as a junior. Glenville teammates Aaron Scales and C.J. Newell saw it every day in practice and during games. Newell even felt it at one point during the Tarblooders’ playoff opener against Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin. Both spotted a receiver running a slant route between them.

A four-star linebacker from Glenville, Johnson announced his commitment to the Buckeyes on Thursday during a ceremony at the Ginn Academy in Cleveland. Liberty, which ended St. Edward’s run of three straight state titles in the state semifinals, graduated a big senior class from that team. Moeller, however, returns Mr. Football winner Matt Ponatoski at quarterback.
