Michigan State is losing another returning EDGE player to the portal. James Schott, a redshirt junior rush end, announced Wednesday via social media he’s transferring out to use his final two seasons of eligibility. He’s the second at the position to hit the portal during the spring window after Anthony Jones did last week. Schott, 6-foot-4 and 243 pounds, had five tackles in 19 games over the last two seasons. The former three-star recruit from Indiana didn’t play as a true freshman in 2022.

A program spokesman confirmed Clay’s portal entry while Brown made the announcement on social media. Neither Clay nor Brown played as true freshmen last season. The Spartans wrapped up spring practice on Saturday. The spring portal window opened last week and closes on Friday.

There are a lot of them. The Michigan State coach decried a “bad system” that isn’t designed to benefit players, is rife with tampering and lacks both transparency and guardrails. “These are unprecedented, crazy times,” Izzo said last week.

He is a graduate transfer with two seasons of eligibility remaining. Tatum has 62 tackles, including 2.5 for a loss, in 22 career games with nine starts at cornerback but has also played safety and nickelback.
