Maine’s credit rating has jumped to the second-highest rating. Moody’s Investors Service, the global ratings company that analyzes and provides ratings to the government, upgraded the state’s credit rating from Aa2 to Aa1 according to a press release sent from the governor’s office. In an interview with Spectrum News, state Treasurer Henry Beck says the state’s credit rating is like a credit score. A better credit rating improves how much money the state can borrow, according to Beck.

AUGUSTA -- Algae blooms can be very dangerous. Once it starts taking over and if left untreated, it eventually can squeeze much needed oxygen from its ecosystem. It can also be very dangerous for humans and animals if the algae is consumed or touched, sometimes causing prolong illnesses and symptoms including stomach pain, headaches and liver damage. To prevent this, Worromontogus Lake Association helped fund a chemical treatment for Togus Pond that would help eliminate these blooms.

CASTINE -- On April 13, Aidan Connelly was traveling along Interstate 295 past the West Gardiner Service Plaza when he saw something in the road you'd never expect: an injured bald eagle. "It looked like a piece of trash, a trash bag had fallen out of the back of someone's bed of a truck or something," said Connelly. Experts attending to the eagle's injuries say the bird was hit by a car at a rate of 70 miles per hour.

PATTEN -- Patten; a small town that offers stunning views, displaying Mount Katahdin's beauty with its Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument. However, the roads leading up to the property are in such disrepair that town officials say something needs to be done, so Town Manager Gail Albert is doing her best to make something happen. "These roads are deteriorating, they need a full restoration," said Albert. Happy Corner Road, Frenchville Road, Waters Road and Baileyville Road are all affected.

BANGOR -- Saturday morning is the official start of the 57th annual Kenduskeag Stream Canoe Race. It's less than 24 hours away and you can tell there's a buzz in the air. "We're really excited for it. It's a lot of fun and a long day for everybody but it's still a lot of fun and excitement throughout the day start to finish," said Zach Napsey, Recreation Coordinator at Bangor Parks and Recreation. "I'm so pumped to be racing tomorrow.
