    Although gray skies brought a smattering of rain over YMCA-Snow Mountain Ranch on Sept. 10, the clouds cleared in late afternoon – perfect timing for a group of hikers. They headed up to the waterfall, Snow Mountain’s most popular hike. The waterfall is an uplifting sight; for these hikers, it had a special meaning. They were part of the You Are Not Alone event for suicide awareness and prevention. This was the third annual YANA event, held on Worldwide Suicide Prevention Day.

    YMCA of the Rockies-Snow Mountain Ranch welcomed six adorable puppies to their sled dog team – Opal, Onyx, Jasper, Jade, Zircon and Granite. One of the YMCA’s dog sled team members named Cinder is the proud mom of the puppies, who were born on Aug. 5. Cinder was one of the pups from the 2020 litter. The new puppies are beginning to explore the world with bright blue eyes.

    As snow dusted the highest peaks around Grand County this week, Winter Park Resort is getting ready for opening season with several new additions. Last year marked the resort’s earliest opening Oct. 31, 2022, – with snow already flying at 12,000 feet this year, an early opening might be in the forecast. For the 2023-24 season, Winter Park Resort will celebrate the opening of a new lift, as well as completion of their workforce housing project.

    Morris, the beloved orange tabby cat who greets customers at Granby’s Country Ace Hardware, found himself on the wrong side of the tracks last year in August. While visiting Debbie’s Drive In next door, Morris was taken by a Denver couple who thought he was a stray. Morris took the drive all the way to the front range, but community members rallied to find him. After he was safely returned home by the Granby Police Department, the town designated Sept. 14 as Morris the Cat Day.

    The Grand Park development in Fraser is inching forward after the Fraser Board of Trustees approved the developer’s amended service plan this May. The service plan lays out the taxation structure that residents of the development’s metropolitan districts pay.  The amendment made the West Meadow Metro District – the homeowner-occupied district – independent from the other districts in Grand Park.
