The landlords who have been trying for two years to force the abortion clinic in Bristol out of their building are appealing the dismissal of their lawsuit against the clinic owner. In turn, the attorney for the owner of the abortion clinic, Bristol Women’s Health, is seeking to have the appeal dismissed. The notice of appeal was filed with the Court of Appeals of Virginia on Oct. 25 by the attorneys for brothers Chase King and Chadwick King.

House Democrats on Wednesday by a 6-2 vote killed a Republican proposal that would have reinstated the death penalty in Virginia. The measure’s sponsor, Del. Tim Griffin, R-Bedford County, told a House Courts of Justice subcommittee that his House Bill 394 would only apply to “the worst of the worst” murder cases, and that it would have brought back an important tool for prosecutors to negotiate with capital offenders.

The bans had been imposed during drier weather more than a month ago when wildfires were breaking out across the western part of the state.

Danville is one of the least healthy localities in the state, according to a University of Wisconsin program that measures health and equity across the country. Out of 133 Virginia localities, Danville ranks 128. But Danville just joined the City Health Dashboard, becoming one of only two Southside localities to do so. The dashboard is a program that measures a variety of health metrics for almost 1,000 cities across the country.
