    ITHACA, N.Y. — Tompkins County began its rollout of AI-powered license plate reading cameras last month. The move comes 18 months after Ithaca officials, in conjunction with Tompkins County, approved a deal with anti-crime technology company Flock to install a network of devices. So far, the county has activated about 20 of the 50 total devices under its contract. The devices are in addition to a separate network of 21 other cameras that are under the oversight of the Ithaca Police Department.

ITHACA, N.Y. — An Ithaca man who admitted to killing his wife last November pled guilty to second-degree murder Monday, according to a press release from the Tompkins County District Attorney’s office. Ahmed Abed, 44, turned himself in to police last year and admitted to killing his wife, Alaa Hussein Jeena Abedi, on Nov. 11, 2024 in their shared apartment in Ithaca.

These are just a few of the proposals for the Aurora, N.Y., grounds and buildings once home to the now-closed Wells College. Trustees for the private liberal arts college announced the school’s closure last spring citing dwindling finances and enrollment. The college had operated for 156 years prior to the closure.
