ITHACA, N.Y. — The incoming publisher of The Ithaca Times and its affiliated newspapers announced Wednesday plans to follow in this publication’s footsteps and convert to a not-for-profit model. The change comes alongside a leadership transition as the paper’s longtime publisher takes on an “emeritus” role. Ownership of the newspaper will transfer to a newly-formed non-profit organization, Pathways to Equity, Inc., per an article published in The Ithaca Times Wednesday.

ITHACA, N.Y. — German long distance bus company Flixbus is launching a more direct bus service between Ithaca and Boston, Mass. The 7 hour 40 minute route includes stops in Cortland, N.Y., Syracuse, N.Y., Albany, N.Y. and Springfield, Mass. but does not require transfers. Current bus routes to and from Boston take 9 – 12 hours and require a transfer in New York City. By car, the journey takes about five-and-a-half hours, assuming no traffic or pit stops.

ITHACA, N.Y. — Over a hundred people gathered for a rally and march in downtown Ithaca on May 1 for International Workers Day, otherwise known as May Day. The event served as an outlet for a myriad of different progressive causes — from fair wages to LGBTQ rights to calls for an end to the war in Gaza. As with much of recent activism in Ithaca, criticism of the Trump administration served as a predominant throughline.

ITHACA, N.Y. — The Ithaca City School District (ICSD) will ask voters to approve an annual school budget that is decidedly more conservative than last year’s. Board of Education members approved a budget proposal in a special voting meeting April 22. Voters in school board elections will have the final say later this month.
