SEATTLE — At every Seattle Kraken home game, the action on the ice is not the only thing bringing the crowd to their feet. “It’s amazing,” said Annemarie Scalzo, One Roof Foundation senior director of social impact partnerships and programs. “The atmosphere in the arena is electric. Our fans get so behind it.” Launched in 2022 by the One Roof Foundation, the "Heroes of the Deep" program honors individuals and organizations doing extraordinary things to uplift, unite and inspire the community.

SEATTLE — Every Wednesday morning, the lobby at the Kraken Community Iceplex in Seattle fills with excited chatter, laughter — and the occasional squeal — as preschoolers lace up their skates and head to the rink. SEATTLE — When Mari Horita took the helm as Executive Director of One Roof Foundation, she was not a hockey fan. “I knew nothing about hockey before taking this job,” Horita said. “But I will say, in the last six years, I have become not just a hockey fan, but I have tremendous respect for the game and for the athletes.” Horita was drawn to the job by the Seattle Kraken’s vision for how a professional team could create social change beyond the ice.

The organization relies on volunteers and community support to make a difference. One of those volunteers is Mary Beth Bylsma, wife of Seattle Kraken head coach Dan Bylsma. She helps out at least once a week, serving lunch at YouthCare’s Orion Center in Seattle.

RENTON, Wash. — It’s game night at Maplewood Heights Elementary in Renton, and the gym is electric. The Krushing and The Hi-Tech — two teams of fourth and fifth graders — are going head-to-head in the Little Krakens Floor Hockey Championship, complete with roaring fans, gold medals and their own version of the Stanley Cup. “These two teams went through a regular season, battling through the playoffs,” said PE teacher Jason Keniston.
