Murder charges will not go ahead against Mackay parents who have always maintained their innocence over their daughter's death. The DPP says there is no prospect of proving murder beyond a reasonable doubt. Diana Hanbury's death will now be referred to the Queensland Coroner's Court. Charges against the Mackay parents accused of murdering their toddler daughter have been dropped.

A chance phone call to the surface may have saved the life of a central Queensland coal miner working deep underground, unaware there had been a catastrophic methane gas explosion. The Mining and Energy Union has revealed the man was working at Anglo American's Grosvenor Mine in June last year when methane ignited, sending a bright orange flame through the area.

For the first time, researchers have been given an insight into wombat behaviour in burrows, thanks to high-tech activity tracking collars. This information is critical to understanding that habits of the critically endangered northern hairy-nosed wombat and finding suitable additional habitats for them. Up to 60 wombats will be moved to a conservation area near St George over the next two years.

A coronial investigation into the death of a 33-year-old man killed at a central Queensland mine has been abandoned because a coroner has decided it will not lead to any recommendations that could avert similar deaths. Donald "Donnie" Rabbitt was alone when he was crushed by a heavy falling tyre and rim at Curragh Mine, north of Blackwater, on January 12, 2020.
