SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) - A significant number of horses running the Kentucky Derby this Saturday have ties to Florida. The vast majority, including favorite Journalism (3-1), were trained in the Sunshine State. One of those horses also has ties to the Suncoast. Flying Mohawk is co-owned by former Major League Baseball star Jayson Werth and MLB Agent Jeff Berry. The 3-year-old colt is represented by Two Eight Racing in Bradenton, while Werth lives in Sarasota.

BRADENTON, Fla. (WWSB/Gray News) – A burglary at a popular Florida restaurant ended in the arrest of the general manager. According to police, the general manager of Oak & Stone in Bradenton was taken into custody for burglarizing the restaurant. William “Billy” Johnson, 43, was taken into custody Tuesday evening. Earlier that morning, an employee of Oak & Stone arrived to find the restaurant’s entrance unlocked.

BRADENTON, Fla. (WWSB) - Demitrius Tyrone Bell has been sentenced to life in prison following his conviction in a 2023 workplace shooting at the Tropicana Plant in Bradenton. On June 5, 2023, Bell returned to the plant after his scheduled shift and shot a 39-year-old male coworker, causing serious injuries. He then forced his 38-year-old female coworker to leave with him. Bell released the female victim in Hillsborough County on June 7.
