The Florida Panthers have taken their first lead of the series. In Game 5 of Round 2 on Wednesday night, the defending champion Panthers blanked the Toronto Maple Leafs 6–1 to take a 3–2 series lead. Panthers defenceman Aaron Ekblad opened the scoring in the first period, with centre Jesper Boqvist and defencemen Dmitry Kulikov and Niko Mikkola adding goals in the second. Winger A.J. A male suspect has been taken into custody after two males were injured in a shooting in Oshawa Wednesday evening. Durham police were called to John and Simcoe streets for reports of a shooting. One of the males was taken to a Toronto-area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries while a second male arrived at a local hospital suffering from a gunshot wound. His injuries are also considered non-life-threatening.
Woman charged after child, 4, allegedly pushed off Toronto condo balcony

A woman has been charged after a four-year-old child was allegedly pushed off the balcony of a Toronto condo building. Police were called to the complex on Monday after a young child was located on the ground near the building in the Front Street and Spadina Avenue area. The child was taken to hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

Two people have been arrested in connection to a robbery at a Scarborough business Tuesday afternoon. Toronto police were called to Progress Avenue and Kennedy Road just before 5 p.m. for reports of a robbery. The suspects allegedly smashed display cases and stole merchandise. They fled the scene in a car before allegedly hitting another vehicle. Two people were arrested nearby after fleeing the scene on foot, police say. No injuries were reported.

A woman has been arrested for allegedly impersonating a nurse to work at various long-term care homes. Toronto police say between June 2020 and June 2024, the suspect was employed at care homes in the GTA. It’s alleged the suspect impersonated an individual using their name and nursing credentials in order to gain employment. The suspect also allegedly fabricated several documents in order to gain employment. The suspect was identified on Sunday as Anh Nguyen.
Man arrested in 'unprovoked and random' stabbing in Mississauga

A man has been arrested in what police are calling an “unprovoked and random” stabbing of a woman in Mississauga. Investigators say the woman got off a bus near Eglinton Avenue and Hurontario Street just before 6:30 p.m. Saturday. A man followed her off the bus and stabbed her before fleeing the scene on foot. The woman, believed to be in her 20s, was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, where her condition was stabilized.

Fire reported at residential home near Bathurst and Richmond

Toronto Fire are on the scene of a large fire at a residential home near Bathurst and Richmond Streets. Emergency services were called to the area just after 10:30 p.m. The homes between 143 and 147 Bathurst Street have all been effected and as of 11:45 p.m., firefighters were still actively fighting the fire and searching for hotspots. The fire has gone through the roof of one unit. There have been no reports of injuries or occupants still in the homes at this point.
