    OAK HILL, WV (WOAY) – Advocates for coal miners and their families say they are worried about recent cuts to federal programs that oversee mine health and safety. The Department of Government Efficiency has cancelled the leases for Mine Safety and Health Administration offices throughout Appalachia, including the office in Summersville. The Appalachian Citizens’ Law Center issued a report saying the closure of 33 MSHA field offices across the country could make mines less safe for miners.

    WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, WV (WOAY) – The White Sulphur Springs Police Department served a search warrant yesterday and arrested one alleged dealer. The raid happened in the vicinity of Alleghany Street and Tuckahoe Road yesterday morning just after 9 a.m. Officers arrested one man on one count of manufacturing and delivery of fentanyl and one count of manufacturing and delivery of methamphetamine.

    PRINCETON, WV (WOAY) – A major power outage is currently blanketing several counties in southern West Virginia. Mercer County is the hardest hit. Out of the 33,416 customers we are tracking in the county, 25,016 are without power. There are ongoing outages in McDowell, Wyoming, and Summers County as well. As part of sweeping changes within the federal government, the Trump administration has cut the SBA’s workforce by 43 percent. President Trump also plans to roll the administration of the United States student loan program into the Small Business Administration. The move is getting pushback by small business advocacy organizations.
