Pitt State women’s soccer announces 19 new additions

PITTSBURG, KS — Pitt State women’s soccer comes off a solid inaugural season last year with an 8-8-2 record. This week, Gorillas head coach Wes Branstetter recently announced some new additions to the squad. 19 players in total were picked up, including six transfers. Transferring from division I Oral Roberts, defender Abby Hoffman will join the Gorillas next season.

SPRINGFIELD, MO —With high school sports coming to an end, the Springfield Annual Sports Commission awards are set to take place next week. It’s the 13th year of the awards, and several teams and players from Southwest Missouri made the list as finalists. For the boys team of the year: Lamar High School football, Lockwood High School golf, McAuley Catholic cross country, and Miller High School baseball all made the list.
Pitt State’s Kolby Dougan named DII pitcher of the year

PITTSBURG, KS — Pitt State pitcher Kolby Dougan was named division II pitcher of the year this week by the NCAA. Dougan’s numbers were phenomenal on the mound, including an 8-1 record with an ERA of 2.76. The KU transfer struck out nearly 14 batters per nine innings, the best at the DII level. Dougan also had the second least hits allowed per nine innings, and held opponents to a batting average of .151.

Play #5: Joplin’s Maverick Williamson (home run to deep left field) —Joplin’s Maverick Williamson cranked a home run the opposite way against Texarkana. The ball managed to sneak inside the pole and stay fair to give the Outlaws the lead.

PITTSBURG, KS — Summer has kicked off for local high schools and colleges in the Four State area. Pitt State men’s basketball hosted a team camp on Friday afternoon, allowing high school athletes to showcase their skills. Over 70 teams and hundreds of young athletes partook in the action. The games took place in multiple gyms across town, but mainly at John Lance Arena. Teams from Arkansas, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas were represented.

PITTSBURG, KS — Three Pitt State track athletes picked up honors from the U.S. Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association this week. For men’s track athlete of the year in the central region, PSU’s Dapriest Hogans received the honor. Hogans won the 200 meter dash national title, took third place in the 100 meter dash, and helped the Gorillas in the 4×400 meter relay. Looking at women’s field events, Blakelee Winn earned field athlete of the year honors for Pitt State.

FRONTENAC, KS — Frontenac softball was crowned state champions for the second year in a row on Friday after taking down Silver Lake in the state title game. The player of the game, look no further than Raiders pitcher Avery Johnson. Excelling in the circle and in the batter’s box, she played an integral role in the team’s success in Topeka. The senior galvanized the team’s offense with her third inning home run. “I felt a lot of emotions,” said Johnson.
Several local athletes earn All-COC West baseball honors

JOPLIN, MO — The 2025 All-COC West baseball team honors were released this week, and several local athletes and coaches were named on the list. Kyle Wolf of Joplin was named head coach of the year, while Andrew Young of Webb City was named player of the year, and Neosho junior Brody Crane was named pitcher of the year. First team at pitcher: Neosho senior Alex Rodriguez and Joplin junior Brecken Green.
Chase Kilgore named Joplin High School head baseball coach

JOPLIN, MO — Joplin High School baseball will have a new head coach for the 2026 season, as the school announced Chase Kilgore will be the new lead man for the program today. Kilgore replaces former head coach Kyle Wolf who was at the helm for eight seasons. Kilgore joins Joplin from Lamar High School, where he served as head baseball coach and assistant football coach.
