PITTSBURG, KS — Three Pitt State track athletes picked up honors from the U.S. Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association this week. For men’s track athlete of the year in the central region, PSU’s Dapriest Hogans received the honor. Hogans won the 200 meter dash national title, took third place in the 100 meter dash, and helped the Gorillas in the 4×400 meter relay. Looking at women’s field events, Blakelee Winn earned field athlete of the year honors for Pitt State.

FRONTENAC, KS — Frontenac softball was crowned state champions for the second year in a row on Friday after taking down Silver Lake in the state title game. The player of the game, look no further than Raiders pitcher Avery Johnson. Excelling in the circle and in the batter’s box, she played an integral role in the team’s success in Topeka. The senior galvanized the team’s offense with her third inning home run. “I felt a lot of emotions,” said Johnson.

JOPLIN, MO — The 2025 All-COC West baseball team honors were released this week, and several local athletes and coaches were named on the list. Kyle Wolf of Joplin was named head coach of the year, while Andrew Young of Webb City was named player of the year, and Neosho junior Brody Crane was named pitcher of the year. First team at pitcher: Neosho senior Alex Rodriguez and Joplin junior Brecken Green.

JOPLIN, MO — Joplin High School baseball will have a new head coach for the 2026 season, as the school announced Chase Kilgore will be the new lead man for the program today. Kilgore replaces former head coach Kyle Wolf who was at the helm for eight seasons. Kilgore joins Joplin from Lamar High School, where he served as head baseball coach and assistant football coach.
