Investigation after sudden death in north Belfast

Police are at the scene of a sudden death at a house in north Belfast. A cordon is in place at the front of the house on the Shore Road which is close to the junction with Donegall Park Avenue. Police tape has also been placed across the driveway and the front steps of the property. Enquiries are continuing.

The trial of a County Armagh man accused of murdering his infant son has heard “catastrophic brain injuries” played a “very significant role in the development of the pneumonia” the child died from. Craig Rowland, 29, of Millington Park in Portadown, is charged with the murder and manslaughter of Lewis Oliver Rowland, who died on 20 October 2018. Lewis was 13 weeks old when he was admitted to Craigavon Area Hospital with “serious head injuries” in November 2015.

A senior youth worker in west Belfast has warned children are being put at risk after needles, tablets and other substances were found near its centre. St Peter's Immaculata Youth Centre is situated beside St Peter's Cathedral in the lower Falls Road area. Stephen Hughes said they are having "major problems" with drug users using the grounds of the cathedral. He added that children have picked up items including diazepam and pregabalin tablets.
