GENEVA, Ala (WDHN)– The Geneva City School Board voted unanimously on Tuesday to make Jami Seay, the current Mulkey Elementary principal and a native and alumna of Geneva, the next superintendent of Geneva City Schools. Seay says the vote was truly a dream come true. “The place that raised me and did an awesome job with my foundations, I’m excited to be able to give back and serve as the next superintendent,” Seay told WDHN.

A chain supermarket that some Dothan residents grew up on, as it has been in the city for at least 20 years. “I moved here in ’99 and came over from Texas, my original home is in south Alabama, over in Butler County, but I have been going to Winn Dixie since I was a kid so we will see how it all pans out and hopefully its all for the best,” said shopper Robert Wilson.

DOTHAN, Ala (WDHN) — History is on the horizon for Dothan city schools as a 12th grader at Dothan High School, will walk across the stage as the youngest student since the merging of two schools, graduating at 15. “It feels good, but it’s also a lot. However, I feel like if you have a good support system that will be there for you, then I will be okay,” said 15-year-old Darinda Beacham. Beacham was in public school at Kelly Springs up until the 5th grade.
Houston Co. commission tries to get millions in grants for industrial park growth

HOUSTON COUNTY, Ala. (WDHN) — Houston County commissioners are working to get some funding for an industrial park in the county’s southern end. The county is hoping to get a grant on behalf of the county’s industrial board to do site work for a new sewage treatment plant near the state line. This is property the county has owned for many years, near the McLane Distribution Center in Cottonwood. The area has lacked infrastructure like water and sewer, which is why the area hasn’t developed much.
New sports courts coming to Houston Co. town with new lodging tax funds

KINSEY, Ala (WDHN) — Two towns in Houston County are getting funds for sports projects from the county’s lodging tax, which was approved last year. Webb and Kinsey received a total of close to $200,000 from the lodging tax. The money is for recreational use. Kinsey is using a little under $110,000 for the pickleball court they just installed. The money will be used to paint the lines. They will also use it to relocate some basketball courts to the park area.
Dothan’s Loop Music & Art Festival brings in record numbers

DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — Official numbers are in for the 4th Annual Loop Music & Art Festival in Downtown Dothan one week ago. Over 4,000 people showed up to the festival over two days, which beats the record two years ago when 1,400 people came out to enjoy live music, food, art, and multiple vendors. Organizers say artists sold a lot of their artwork during the two-day event. Some artists even won big money, as the event gave out $2,100 in awards.
