Man to stand trial for crash that killed an Owatonna woman

OWATONNA, Minn. – A trial has been scheduled over a 2024 collision that killed a Steele County woman. Hunter Joseph Conrad, 20 of Morristown, has pleaded not guilty to criminal vehicular homicide, careless driving, and failure to stop. Law enforcement says Conrad was using his cell phone and did not stop for a stop sign, causing a fatal collision at the intersection of 50th Street Northwest and North Cedar Avenue in Owatonna on May 28, 204.
Semi crash on northbound Interstate 35

CLEAR LAKE, Iowa - A semi has crashed in a construction zone on Interstate 35 by Clear Lake. The Minnesota Department of Transportation says the semi is blocking the left shoulder of northbound I-35 between U.S. 18 and Exit 193: 4th Avenue South. The shoulder remains blocked as of 7:43 pm Friday.

Minnesota DNR warning that open water is still dangerously cold this time of year

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Lots of Minnesotans have taken to the open water this spring, but the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) says water temperatures are still dangerously low. The DNR says about 30% of fatal boating accidents each year happen during the cold-water period, and many involve victims who weren’t wearing a life jacket. “Boats, canoes, and kayaks have been common sights in these early days of the open-water season,” says Lisa Dugan, DNR recreation safety outreach coordinator.
Not guilty plea entered in 35-year-old western Iowa murder case

LOGAN, Iowa – The man arrested for a nearly 36-year-old killing has pleaded not guilty. Robert Allen Davis, 61 of Council Bluffs, is accused of murdering Barbara Lealyn Lenz, 31, in May 1989. His first-degree murder trial is now scheduled to begin on October 21 in Harrison County. Lenz’ family notified the Woodbine Police Department on May 17, 1989, that they had not seen nor heard from Lenz since May 3, 1989.

Wanted man captured after big law enforcement operation in Waseca

WASECA, Minn. – A fugitive was arrested after an hour-long standoff Thursday morning. The Waseca Police Department says Luis Ricardo Barajas, 37, was wanted by the Minnesota Department of Corrections for cutting off his monitoring bracelet and avoiding capture.

ROCHESTER, Minn. – Some of the evidence has been suppressed in the case of former Mayo Clinic doctor accused of killing his wife. A judge has granted a motion from Connor Bowman’s defense team to suppress some evidence gathered by search warrant. The judge has ruled that some of the warrants granted in the case permitted “exploratory rummaging” and gave law enforcement “unbridled discretion” when looking into Bowman’s life.
