A viral TikTok video showed a woman at Roy Sutherland Playground calling an autistic black child a racial slur after the child allegedly stole the diaper bag for the woman’s child.

MASON CITY, Iowa – Drivers are being asked to avoid the area south of Willowbrook Mall on Wednesday morning. Mason City Alternative School students will be planting approximately 40 trees at that location, starting at 9 m at the southwest corner of the mall parking lot and continuing around the neighborhood south of 6th Street SW un around 11 am. The City of Mason City is asking drivers to avoid the area between 8 am and 11 am on Wednesday.

MANKATO, Minn. – Child pornography is sending a southern Minnesota man to prison. Roger Myron Yarger, 59 of Mankato, pleaded guilty to three counts of possession of child porn on an electronic device. Seven additional counts of the same offense were dismissed as part of a plea deal. Yarger was arrested after his home was searched on January 18, 2024 by officers from the Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office, Blue Earth County Sheriff’s Office, and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.

MANTORVILLE, Minn. – A Dodge County man accused of sexually abusing two children has pleaded not guilty. William Patrick Wyttenback, 53 of Dodge Center, is now set to stand trial starting August 11 for two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, second-degree criminal sexual conduct, and third-degree criminal sexual conduct.

ROCHESTER, Minn. – A trial date is set for a Rochester man charged with eight felony sex crimes. Kyle Preston Garrow, 23, has pleaded not guilty to two counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct, two counts of soliciting a child to engage in sexual conduct, two counts of soliciting a child or someone believed to be a child through electronic communication to engage in sexual conduct, and two counts of possession of pornographic work as a registered predatory offender.

ST. PAUL, Minn. – A new disease is being added to the list of conditions for which Minnesota newborns are routinely screened. Minnesota Commissioner of Health Dr. Brooke Cunningham says the Newborn Screening Advisory Committee’s is recommending metachromatic leukodystrophy (MLD) be added to the list. MLD is a type of lysosomal disease, which is caused by an enzyme deficiency leading to a buildup of fats called sulfatides. This buildup causes damage to the brain and nervous system.

GOODHUE COUNTY, Minn. – An Olmsted County driver was hurt after a single-vehicle crash Sunday night. The Minnesota State Patrol says Jailee Ann Hendrickson, 23 of Rochester, was driving a 2018 Nissan Altima south on Highway 52 when she hit a deer near mile marker 94. The State Patrol says the accident happened just after 9 pm and left Hendrickson with non-life threatening injuries. She was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester for treatment.

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – A trial has been scheduled over the Twin Cities murder of a Stewartville man. Marquan Deshaun Tucker, 20 of Coon Rapids, has pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, and drive-by shooting. Law enforcement says Tucker engaged in a gun battle on December 7, 2024, in the 8000 block of Brooklyn Park Boulevard. Investigators say Tucker shot and killer Ramone Rashawn Blue, 23, and shot and seriously wounded a second man before driving away.

BANCROFT TOWNSHIP, Minn.- The Minnesota State Patrol says alcohol was involved in a Saturday collision in Freeborn County that injured four people. The accident happened around 3:17 pm on Interstate 90. An eastbound 2023 Toyota Tundra driven by Christine Jo Bennett, 55 of Mountain Lake, crashed head-on with a westbound 2019 Chevrolete Equinoz driven by Nyaroup Jocklaw Jal, 36 of Albert Lea, near mile marker 159.
