We caught up with officers in northwest Rochester as they run, bike and blade 98 miles from the Olmsted County Government Center to Roadside Park in Hastings.

STEWARTVILLE, Minn. (KTTC) –Stewartville Fire and Rescue is preparing to send a long-time member of its team into retirement. Mark Podein is stepping down after serving 37 dedicated years as an Engineer. In a posting on Facebook, Stewartville Fire and Rescue wrote in part, “Mark has been a cornerstone of our department—always the first to step up, the last to leave, and the one we could count on through the toughest calls and the longest nights.

LAKE CITY, Minn. (KTTC) – A person was rescued in Lake City during a morning house fire. Lake City Fire Chief Dan Patterson says flames and smoke were coming from the front of the home Thursday morning when crews arrived on scene on North High Street. Passersby were already trying to get inside the home to provide assistance. A resident of the home was brought out on the front lawn for emergency medical care and was then transferred by ambulance to a hospital.

AUSTIN, Minn. (KTTC) – 2025 marks 100 years for the Scripps National Spelling Bee and the excitement is underway in Maryland as a field of 243 top spellers will be narrowed down to one. The preliminary rounds took place on Tuesday and a competitor from Auston took on a tough 14-year-old. Carter Peterson is an 8th grader from Ellis Middle School in Austin. He loves football, gaming, drawing and teaching others about “weird” words they have never heard before.

NORTHWOOD, Iowa (KTTC) – A trip to the casino took a lucky turn in north Iowa this week. Boyd Gaming is reporting someone from Minnesota won a $90,000 dollar jackpot at Diamond Jo Hotel & Casino on Monday. The name of the winner hasn’t been released, but he appears to be a rural resident. When asked what he was going to do with the winnings, his plans were to fix his tractor and pay some bills.
