(WDHN) — Here in the Wiregrass, teenagers had the opportunity to attend a driving summit at ESCC. The summit took place to hopefully instill better driving habits in the younger generation. One of the main reasons for this summit is the increasing crash and fatality statistics in young drivers.

WIREGRASS (WDHN) — On Thursday, the annual Wiregrass United Way bus tour made a stop in each of the six counties it serves. In Dale County, the stop took place at Vivian B. Adams School for the developmentally disabled in Ozark. This year’s campaign chairman, Dean Mitchell, says the goal for all six counties is to raise $2,288,280.

DALE COUNTY, Ala. (WDHN) — A Skipperville man charged with the rape of a juvenile is awaiting to find out if he’ll be eligible for bond in his case. Earlier this month, Thawng Biak was arrested by Dale County Sheriff Investigators following a report from a counselor and the reported victim claiming the 41-year-old suspect forcibly raped her. Biak was born in Myanmar — formally known as Burma, but is a naturalized U.S. Citizen.

GENEVA COUNTY, Ala. (WDHN) — In just a few weeks, an inaugural rock festival will take over the City of Two Rivers. On Saturday, October 7, several popular rock bands will take center stage at the first Big Oak Rock Festival at Robert Fowler Park. Mayor David Hayes and the city council believe it’ll bring in hundreds, possibly thousands of young people from across the southeast. It’s hoped a Post-summer event like a rock concert will draw tourists to Geneva.

GENEVA COUNTY, Ala. (WDHN) — A safety makeover is taking place outside the 60-year-old Geneva County Courthouse. Once complete, the project will improve sidewalks, increase parking, and place improved lighting for residents and visitors. Geneva County Probate Judge and Commission Chairman, Toby Seay, expects the sidewalk project to be completed within 30 days. The federal transportation project will replace cracked sidewalks, increase parking spaces, and improve lighting.
