GOSHEN - Edward Holley's second trial for the murder of Megan McDonald will begin jury selection on Oct. 8. Orange County Court Judge Hyun Chin Kim scheduled that date after conferring with the two special prosecutors and three defense attorneys in the case on May 5. Kim said that was the earliest date that was mutually convenient for all five attorneys. Holley is charged with second-degree murder, a felony, in the bludgeoning death of his former girlfriend Megan McDonald in March 2003.

Federal prosecutors have accused a Newburgh man of using a social media app to extort sexually explicit material from a child. Carsen Mansfield, 23, of Newburgh, was arrested April 29. Jay Clayton, the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, said in a news release Mansfield allegedly used the communications platform Discord to contact a minor. Mansfield allegedly sent the girl a series of photographs that she recognized as nude photographs of herself.
