Huddersfield Railway Station will be closed from Saturday 30 August until Monday 29 September 2025 to enable major Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU) engineering work. Network Rail says the ongoing upgrade of the Grade I listed station – which began over a year ago – is designed to unlock the benefits of improved rail travel across the North. A company and its director have been fined for ignoring Environment Agency warnings to stop burning waste on rural land in West Yorkshire. Bardsey Tree Services Ltd, of Main Road in Wighill, Tadcaster, and company director Andrew Richard Ward, 56, of the same address, appeared at York Magistrates’ Court. They both pleaded guilty to two offences of burning waste on land near Wetherby on separate occasions between August 2023 and August 2024.
