JACKSON, MI — Jackson Public School buildings were put on temporary lockdown Tuesday afternoon following a threatening 911 call that was quickly determined to be a hoax. At about 1:40 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, a 911 phone call was made indicating a threat of violence at the Middle School at Parkside, school officials said in a Facebook post. The school was immediately put in lockdown mode as Jackson Police officers arrived on scene to investigate.

Grass Lake Community Schools — along with its neighbor 10 miles to the west, the Michigan Center School District — are exceptions to the trend of declining enrollment experienced by other schools in the Jackson County Intermediate School District, and the state at large.

JACKSON, MI - Two northbound lanes of Airport Road at I-94 in Jackson will be closed until further notice while bridge damage is investigated. The Michigan Department of Transportation closed the two lanes after a high-load truck hit the Airport Road bridge at about 5:55 p.m. Friday, April 11. The crash damaged the beams of the bridge over westbound I-94, MDOT officials said in a press release.

SPRING ARBOR TOWNSHIP, MI - After months considering more expensive options, a Michigan township might have found a way to fix its silent emergency siren. The emergency alert siren near the Spring Arbor Township Fire Department building is currently inoperable, and has been for nearly a year, said Supervisor Dave Herlein. Following a March 30 severe weather event, township officials said in a Facebook post they had no plans to replace the siren.

Fay Odeh — along with her husband Steve and six children — had just moved to Waterloo Township from the Detroit suburbs. In a time before Google, the Odehs had paused their tour of Jackson to look at a map when they noticed they were parked in front of a Lum’s restaurant.
