Mosquitos in McHenry and DuPage counties have tested positive for West Nile virus, public health officials announced. A mosquito pool collected from Lake in the Hills on June 2 tested positive for the virus, making the pool the first mosquitoes to test positive for West Nile for the 2025 season, the McHenry County Department of Health said.

Jacob Pabello spent last Monday afternoon scraping blood and the innards of two of his beloved pets from off of his windshield near his Portage Park home. The birds — a chicken named Peep and a duck named Henry — were both killed around 3:50 p.m. last Monday in Pabello’s backyard in the 5400 block of West Newport Avenue, Pabello and Chicago police said. Pabello was asleep at the time when he was woken up by banging at his side door.

Though Pope Leo XIV is on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean, the pontiff’s supporters will get to hear from him at a Mass and celebration of his election next month at Rate Field. Pope Leo will offer a “special video message to the young people of the world,” at the event, which is scheduled for June 14 at 333 W. 35th St., the home of the White Sox, the Archdiocese of Chicago announced.
