Two Chicago-area friends were released from a Denmark prison where they were held for the last two weeks following an altercation that occurred with an Uber driver in March, according to a family spokesperson for one of the men. Owen Ray, 19, and his friend were were released from Vestre Prison in Copenhagen on Monday, and they remain in Denmark, a spokesperson for Ray’s family said.

The next time Carlos Burruel and Scotty McKinney cross paths, feelings of pain and anxiety will be replaced with gratitude and relief. The two technically “met” around 2:40 a.m. Wednesday as McKinney pulled Burruel to safety after he was struck by an SUV that fled the scene in the 3600 block of West Diversey Avenue. McKinney’s roommate called 911. “I would like to say thank-you to them,” Burruel told the Chicago Sun-Times Monday morning from his hospital bed.

Baby fever has spread throughout Brookfield Zoo Chicago. The zoo will have several new babies — many coming from an endangered species — available for zoo-goers to see this spring, the zoo announced in a statement. Some of the babies include Humboldt penguin chicks, a nyala antelope calf, a western gray kangaroo joey and Lake Titicaca frogs, the zoo said. Brookfield Zoo has led efforts in a conservation program at Punta San Juan for nearly 20 years, according to the statement.

Assailants gunned down a 15-year-old boy who ran for cover from gunfire by getting behind a parked car Friday evening in Little Village on the West Side. Jerry F. Aquino was in the 2800 block of South Komensky Avenue around 5:10 p.m. Friday when a black Jeep Grand Cherokee with no front license plate approached and occupants inside opened fire, Chicago police said.
