BISMARCK, N.D. (KXNET) — Julie Schirado of Furry Friends Rockin’ Rescue came by to introduce everyone to Dash, her newest doggie companion. Dash is currently being fostered, but wanted to get out and about in the early morning hours. He enjoys just lounging around the house, or even in the car. He makes quite a good couch companion or ride-along buddy. He was part of the busy season for the Rescue as they travel around the western part of the state taking in as many animals as they can.

WAHPETON, ND (KXNET) — She’s been called the family’s miracle child, but all she wants to do is live life to the fullest. Maya McQuiston is the youngest of eight siblings, and the second child of Jenny — never Jennifer — and James to be delivered at home under the guidance of a midwife. Maya is living with a traumatic brain condition called hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy, or HIE. The condition can occur during fetal development, labor and delivery, or shortly after birth.

BISMARCK, N.D. (KXNET) — Julie Shirado from the Furry Friends Rockin’ Rescue came by to introduce the world to her newest canine companion, Willow. Willow is still only a puppy, but the people at the shelter have big plans for her. Once she passes a few trials, and gets a proper look-over, she’ll begin training to become an emotional support animal. The plan is to pair her up with someone in a wheelchair to help bring some joy into their life with a cute and cuddly canine companion of their own.

BISMARCK, ND (KXNET) — The month of April is known for a lot of things. For some it’s tax month, Autism Awareness Month, and even Alcohol Awareness Month. But one condition that some may not know about is Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy, or HIE. It’s a condition that affects pre-term and full-term infants, caused by oxygen deprivation during fetal development, labor, delivery, or even the post-natal period.

Poor Penny was found on the side of the road after it was reported that she was pushed out of a vehicle. While her breed is often associated with aggression and being mean, Penny is the farthest from that moniker.

BISMARCK, N.D. (KXNET) — Easter has come and gone, and that means it’s time for Spring Cleaning around the capital city. The city of Bismarck’s annual Spring Cleanup Week for Residential Curbside Collections start today and run through Thursday. All items should be placed at their point of collection by 6 a-m on their regularly scheduled garbage day. All small, loose items for pick-up must be placed in either boxes or bags… and separated by type, such wood, metals, and appliances.

BISMARCK, N.D. (KXNET) — Julie Schirado from Furry Friends Rockin’ Rescue introduced everyone to her new puppy pal, Otto. Otto was one of the few puppies who survived his birth during that bitterly cold spell this winter. He was born on a porch in Mandan when the high temperature struggled to get above negative 30. And now he’s growing as every puppy does — chewing on anything her can get his mouth on… including one of our microphones.

WASHINGTON, D.C. (KXNET) — For the second time in as many years, House republicans brought the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility, or SAVE, Act to the floor. In a statement, Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, one of the bill’s sponsors, said it “serves as a critical first step to ensure that we maintain election integrity throughout our country.” North Dakota’s lone representative, Julie Fedorchak, joined her party in voting in favor of the bill.
Man killed in officer-involved shooting near Watford City

WATFORD CITY, N.D. (KXNET) — One man is dead following an officer-involved shooting late Monday evening near Watford City. According to a post on the McKenzie County Sheriff’s Facebook page, deputies responded to a domestic call at a residence south of the city around 7:30 p.m.During the incident, a male suspect was shot by one of the deputies. Emergency medical personnel were called to the scene and took the man to the McKenzie County Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
