A major police operation was mounted on Friday at Links Market. The Courier was given exclusive access to what is usually Police Scotland’s most challenging day during Kirkcaldy’s 700-year-old street fair. A 20-strong team of officers was deployed within the market and surrounding streets to tackle the threat of anti-social behaviour in the first week of the event.

Police believe a gang behind a “vicious and unprovoked” attack on a group of boys on a Kinghorn beach may have travelled from Kirkcaldy. Four teenagers ended up in hospital after being attacked on a road near Pettycur Beach on Thursday. A mob of between 20 and 30 youths, many wearing balaclavas and armed with weapons including a bottle, carried out the assault on the youngsters.

A 14-year-old boy has been charged after an eight-hour rooftop stand-off at an Inverkeithing school. Police, fire crews and paramedics were called to Inverkething Primary School just after noon on Monday after reports of a hooded youth being spotted on the roof. Officers surrounded the main school building as trained negotiators were brought in. The incident went on for about eight-and-a-half hours before the teenager was eventually brought down.
