STAMFORD — A longtime employee of Stamford Public Schools is now an assistant director of special education. The Board of Education on Tuesday unanimously approved the appointment of Kathleen Quaglino, who joined the district in 1998, for the position. She replaces Amy DeNicola who left the district earlier this year.

STAMFORD — Trinity Catholic High School will start 2017 with a new principal. School officials have hired David Williams to fill the position. He’s a former social studies teacher who has previously served as a department head and principal. Article continues below this adWilliams replaces Tony Pavia, who had been serving as interim principal since August. Pavia, who also served as Trinity Catholic principal from 2011 to 2014, will remain involved with the school as a board member.

David Arthur Stack was shot and killed in Wendover, Utah, in June 1976 — the same month he left Colorado to hitchhike to California.

STAMFORD — In the latest episode of the city’s string of gun violence, a 24-year-old man was shot numerous times during a shootout on the South End between Thursday and Friday, police said. Capt. Richard Conklin said officers found the victim lying on the street about 12:30 a.m. Friday with gunshots to his chest, abdomen and legs. As of Friday afternoon, he was in grave condition at Stamford Hospital, police said.

Stamford resident Wendy Lichtenberg, a seventh-grader at the Harvey School in Katonah, N.Y., will compete in a statewide robotics tournament this weekend. She and her sixth-grade partner, Clayton Collum, placed eighth out of 40 teams in the final match of the VEX IQ Challenge state-qualifier competition earlier this month at East Rockaway High School on Long Island.
