Families ready to start summer with a splash can find fun, fishing and more on June 7, when City of St. Clair Recreation hosts River Day Family Fishing and Paddle the Pine River. River Day Family Fishing on June 7 coincides with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (MDNR) free fishing weekend. The MDNR does not require a fishing license fee twice per year at two-day intervals, with the 2025 summer weekend being June 7-8.

The City of Richmond wanted to welcome Memorial Day with a splash this year, by opening a new splash pad at Beebe Street Park. However cooler weather temperatures delayed the opening. The splash pad was originally set to open on May 24. However, a May 20 City of Richmond Recreation Department Facebook post at facebook.com/RichmondRecreationDepartment/ indicated the opening would be postponed until the first week of June. The Facebook post further listed that residents would be kept informed.

The celebration of a fish with a pedigree that dates back to the pre-dinosaur age is coming to Port Huron on June 7. Friends of the St. Clair River will host the Sturgeon Fest 2025 at Fort Gratiot Lighthouse Park in Port Huron from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Festival parking and admission are free. The Fort Gratiot Lighthouse is located at 2802 Omar St. in Port Huron. Lake sturgeon are a threatened species, but currently over 10,000 are underneath the Blue Water Bridges in the St. Clair River.

Local nonprofit Kind Human 4 Human Kind recently cleaned up the dilemma of spring cleaning faced by families in need, hosting a cleaning supply drive with distribution points in two counties. The Scrub Your Troubles Away campaign was created at Kind Human 4 Human Kind for the first time this year. It was designed to help those who cannot afford basic cleaning supplies, as food assistance programs often do not include these types of items.

Richmond Hometown Heroes is currently hosting the If the Shoe Fits Shoe Drive. New or gently-used shoes are now being accepted at the Richmond Police Department, 36725 Division Road, and open 24 hours. Shoes may be dropped off at the front desk of the department. Monetary donations for the shoe drive will also be accepted there.
