KUNC is inviting you to celebrate National Poetry Month with us! We’re asking the community to share their poetic skills with an ode to our Colorado home. The window to submit poems is open now until April 21. Over the course of the month, you'll hear your neighbors wax poetic with brief spotlights sprinkled throughout the day. On the last day of Poetry Month, April 30, we will dedicate segments on Morning Edition and All Things Considered to listener poetry.

It’s the end of the Dave Becker Era at Nevada Public Radio and in the public media system. Dave retired in late 2024 after 17 years managing NVPR’s Las Vegas stations, KNPR and KCNV. Dave left the industry having taught, inspired and cared for many grateful people, myself included. I was privileged enough to work with and learn from him for eight years, and I owe much of my success to his influence.

Colorado is in dire need of public defenders, Colorado needs three times as many public defenders as it has now, according to research backed by the American Bar Association. The state needs to triple its number of court-retained defense attorneys to keep up with demand while upholding workload standards. Reporter Michael Booth with The Colorado Sun joined us to talk about the study and what it means for Colorado.
